Mexican Government Excellence Scholarships for International Students

The Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) invites applications for the Mexican Government Excellence Scholarships for International Students. These scholarships are dedicated to international students who wish to study for Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral programmes at Universities in Mexico.

Applicants will have the opportunity to choose from over 90 Mexican Higher Education Institutions (HEI) for studies ranging from 12 months to 36 months. Through these scholarships, the government of Mexico aims to aims to contribute to the formation of human capital and promote equal access to education.

Scholarships are offered for 2 categories of Programmes, namely.

  • Mobility programmes (Undergraduate-level and Graduate-level academic mobility) dedicated to students currently enrolled in a home or Mexican university, who wish to attend part of studies in Mexico.
  • Graduate Studies, Research and Specializations (Masters, doctorate and Specialty Courses) dedicated to students who have completed one level of academic study an wish to do an advanced level at at Mexican institution.

Students can apply for scholarships under the following academic programmes

  • Undergraduate-level academic mobility for a duration of 24 months maximum
  • Graduate-level academic mobility program for a duration of 18 months maximum
  • Research stays at the Master’s, Doctorate, and Post-Doctorate level for a duration of 12 months maximum
  • Specialization for a duration of 12 months maximum
  • MasterĀ“s for a duration of 24 months maximum
  • Doctorate for a duration of 36 months maximum
  • Postgraduate stays for a duration of 12 months maximum


Accepted applicants will be eligible for the following benefits

  • Students selected for Undergraduate -level academic mobility, Graduate-level academic mobility program, Specialization, or Research stays at the Master’s level, will receive a monthly stipend worth $13,202.12 Mexican pesos.
  • Scholars selected for Doctorate, Research stays at the Doctorate and Post-Doctorate level or Medical Specialties and Sub-Specialties will receive a monthly stipend worth $16,502.65 Mexican pesos.
  • The scholarship also covers your enrollment and tuition fees for your selected programme
  • Students will receive coverage for Medical insurance through the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
  • Your cost to process the Mexican visa will be waived.
  • The scholarship will also cover the cost of air flight from and back to your home country


Applicants for the programme must meet the following conditions

  • You must be a Citizen and national of one of the 180 participating countries.
  • Applicants may be International students currently residing outside Mexico and those already studying in Mexico at the time of application.
  • You must have excellent academic performance from your previous and current studies equivalent to a minimum average grade of 85 on the scale of 0 to 100.
  • In case your studies are to be offered in Spanish, students whose native language is not Spanish must submit a proof of Spanish language proficiency.
  • Applicants must apply and get accepted for their preferred program at one of the participating Institution in order to be selected for the scholarship.


Before you apply, you are advised to apply for admission are receive a letter of acceptance from your preferred participating institution. Information regarding all eligible courses as well as participating institutions is available on the programme website.

Applicants must then complete and submit their applications through the Academic Cooperation Management System (SIGCA) portal. You will need to first create an account before initiating your application. During the application process, you will be requested to submit supporting documents including the following.

  • Download and complete the Annex 5 application form
  • Submit a motivation letter explaining the reasons for applying for the scholarship programme.
  • Applicants must submit their recent curriculum vitae.
  • Submit a letter of acceptance form a participating institution.
  • Download and complete the Annex 6 letter of commitment to return to your home country.
  • Also download and complete the annex 7 letter of acceptance of terms and conditions of the call.
  • Scan and submit a copy of your Valid passport or national ID
  • Submit a copy of your Birth Certificate.
  • Applicants who wish to study in Spanish but whose native language is not Spanish must include a proof of Spanish language proficiency.
  • Submit copies of official certificates of completed studies.
  • Applicants applying for mobility programmes (Undergraduateā€“level and graduate-level academic mobility) must include a letter from their home institution expressing their commitment to recognize credits and subjects to be studied in Mexico.
